Ryan Pfluger

Some cool work over on the website of photographer Ryan Pfluger. I like a lot of the editorial projects more than the personal work, although "men i've met" has a few cocks in it, which is all good! lol.

GraffPorn - experimental style

I was going over my artwork that I have posted here on this blog, and I decided to mix two existing styles. I have the very sketch/paint style of the TEN series, and the rough lines and details of the GraffPorn style. I am quite happy with the result.

Based on a few real world sketches I did recently, this is titled J (in front of the mirror).

Barry the Beaver

Lowbrow art goes lowbrow lifestyle with the Barry the Beaver art toy, designed by San Francisco based artist Jeremy Fish.

Turn the tree stump and Barry begins to buzzzzzzzzzz. Not just a noise maker, this thing vibrates. The rest you can think up yourself...! Now where to put that tail?

Ricardo Fumanal

Ricardo Fumanal's work is fuckin' awesome! His style looks at first to be a little low-brow naive, but is immaculately engineered with detailed pencil work.

It's like a school boys sketchbook of total brain downloads, mental observations and brilliantly imagined madness! There are two portfolio PDFs to download from his site - so what are you waiting for?

I Know Where The Summer Goes

A favourite of mine is photographer Ryan McGinley. He is set to show new work at Team Gallery in his home town of New York, from April 3rd. The exhibition entitled I Know Where the Summer Goes is a collection of “snapshots”. McGinley has gone from being tagged the "hottest young photographer in town" to being considered a serious artist with a rare gift for creating enduring color photographs that show us the best sides of youthfulness.

In the summer of 2007, for example, McGinley travelled the USA with 16 models and 3 assistants. Over 4,000 rolls of film, the resulting 150,000 photographs were narrowed down to a body of 50 images. The inspiration for the project was drawn from amateur nudist photography of the 60s and early 70s. McGinley would sit with his models and look through all of the ephemera of the period that he had collected, discussing with them the mood that he was hoping to capture that day. McGinley had chosen a very specific itinerary that would bring his troop through the incredible range of landscapes that are available across the US and carefully planned a battery of activities, sometimes orchestrating the use of special effects. He has always been quite fond of fireworks and fog machines and in this new work they play a major role.

Boys, boys, boys

A few new favourites - which I have added to the links list already.

First up is Toxic Boy aka Mikel Marton who mixes high art, fashion and male porn, what a fine blend of inspirations. The work is really strong especially much of his digital photography. I like photographers who can pull together constructed realities.

I found the Toxic Boy site through the brilliant link pool of East Village Boys. The site reveals all sorts of treasures to be found around the internet, and delves into the minds of some great emerging art talent.
